Facebook Virus 11/7/2009

Was out and got a text message, it was from Facebook, and it was a message from someone. Stating:

“Sweett! Youur bootyy llooks aweesome on tthis viddeo!”

With a link to a website, that asked me to download a plugin. I won’t link to the site, since someone would end up clicking it, when I have a chance, I’ll be installing a VM so that I can test the EXE. So remember don’t click on any link saying that.

Here is the link: http://www.hs-limmattal.ch/679/

I took of the URL, so you can look at it if you really want to.

How Writing Every Day Impacts Your Blog

Writing on your blog everyday can be tedious, and hard to do. I mean I hardly write an article everyday. I mean recently it hasn’t even been once a week, but I have a good excuse. Though the impact of keeping your reader up to date on a daily basis is something of which stands as a way to get a much larger audience. Especially if you already have an impact on users. Getting 20-30 visitors a day on a site, that has had almost no articles on it, for me is something that is pretty good. I for one know that at least someone reads my articles, and at least someone knows that I’m out there writing and informing people.

But when you keep your user informed on a daily basis on things you think interesting, and the user has something to read and check in on daily, its a much larger positive impact on them. The user has new interesting content to read about, something like how you check the news, stocks and daily deals. All of these things interesting to you, and so when a reader finds new content on your site daily, they are also interested.

The hard part of this argument, is “How do i find something to write about daily?” This can be a hard question and a hard one to answer. I find that if before going to bed i think of different articles to write, usually one that really intrigues me pops into my head. Thus helping me find an article to write for the next day. Last night I was trying to think about what I would write about, and of course as you can tell, it was about writing daily. And being consistent about keeping your users informed. Blogging and social media, means that information is instant, and that users are always looking for new things.

Think if you had been one of the first people with Google Wave invites? And you had said, my 100th visitor gets a Google Wave invite, how many people would visit your site? Lots! You would get much more then 100 visitors. People would be clamoring all over those invites. Yet if instead you are someone talking about wanting a wave invite, you may still get a good number of visitors, since users are also on the same page, trying to get invites.

So keep things relevant to current times, and what your visitors want to see. Look at current internet trends for that day. And try to read what is going to happen tomorrow, to see what you could possibly write an article on tomorrow. As I have stated before my favorite way to find new articles to write about is to look at current trending topics on twitter. As much as people “Oh twitter is just something people jumped on and use for this and that.” Its great for finding what people want to hear about!

Though I guess some of the things that helped me most would have to be, having an iPhone 3GS, and being able to write about it. Which really helped get a lot of views to my site, as it was quite a large and trending topic at the time.

So, really give writing everyday a thought, I’m going to try and do it, and show the demographics and change in the rate of my hits from writing everyday. I hope to reach 100 hits a day for a concurrent run of 3 days. : )

Woopra Analytics

So yesterday I added Woopra to my collection of User Activity plugins. I saw the link on TechCrunch on my facebook, and after reading around a bit, and making an account and finding that I couldn’t actually add my account since I needed an Invite Code to add my site to the Woopra stats. And so far its working great, as I have 3 different Plugins to track users.

The first thing that I notice that is better then the rest of the Plugins, that it not only shows a graph like Blog Stats, but has a lot of the information displayed as in CyStats. Another thing it has over Blog Stats, is that it loads quite fast. I think the reason that Blog Stats does load a little slower is that it grabs information from Wordpress.com instead of the source right on the site. But I’d guess that the same thing is happening with Woopra, getting the stats of the Woopra page.

The demographics of most of my hits are USA based as in; one in two visitors is from the USA. Though the next two are Unknown, and Germany. Both coming in with 2 in 10 visitors. I’d like to further see how this plays out in the long run. I’ll be tracking the visits, seeing what countries visit my site on what day. I guess Tuesday was a big day for people from USA.

Another REALLY nice feature of this, it tells me about how long the user decided to stay on my site. I have one in four people staying from two to five minutes. With an average view of three to four articles. Which shows a high impact on reading more then one article.

Halo 3:ODST

So i got Halo 3 ODST, the day it came out. More on a whim then anything else. I just really thought it would be a cool game to play. Though i didn’t like Halo 3 that much since you had a ton of shield.

And after playing this game for a while, i’ve been doing the Firefight mode. And today I got 5 penises in my ass to the 5th Set, and i’ve still got 8 lives to go. So Ill post pictures to prove that i got there :)

iPhone MMS

Alright AT&T, I’ve followed you from day one about the 3GS and OS 3.0. But where is all this cool stuff? I just connected my iPhone 3GS, on September 25th, and guess what? I still don’t have it. Will I have to wait till September 25, 2010? I think it’s time you step it up with the other carriors and provide the users who have been supporting you, and have been waiting nicely for MMS for the iPhone, what they want. Please and thank you AT&T.

I leave for basic training

I’ll be gone for the next 3 months for basic training, this means that there will be little to no posts from me. I will bring my iPhone and try to add a new post every Sunday (i get the phone). And my Mom (a blogger) will be updating the blog with current things happening. And she will also try to blog about things usually up on the blog.

I leave tomorrow!

Blogging and Social Media

I don’t try to be a Social Media Expert, or a Blogging expert. Working in a house hold that blogs, and working with them to blog is something that takes some skill. My dad who wrote a book and is now blogging about current debats in the current events over at his blog. And my mom who is blogging about how to work and live in the current financially stuggaling times. I’ve had to work with both on Blogging, and Social Media. And not being a self proclamed “Media Guru” I guess my it’s a bit harder then usual.

But I’m going to talk a little about what I’ve told them, and how to start your Social Networking. With some To Do’s and some Don’t Do’s. This will help anyone who is blogging lightly, or has a twitter and wants to get more into Social Media.

Q: People ask, alright so I want a web site and a blog.

A: Your Blog in most cases will be your website. If you need a portfolio your blog can do this for you. And it will do it quite well. The number of plugins for Wordpress are endless.

Q: What do i blog about?

A: Anything that you think that your opinion will matter on. Don’t try to blog on things you don’t know nothing about. At least have a small amount of knowledge on the subject that pertains to your blog post. In your blog should be things that you like, and not things others have said.

Q: How often should i blog?

A: Daily, and if you can’t do that try blogging twice or three times a week. It’s something that should just let happen. Add it to the weekly chores that need to be done. Laundry, clean the kitchen, bring kids to the soccer game and write a blog post.

Q: How do i blog?

A: Sit down and do it, this is something like writing and school work. If you don’t sit down and do it now, it will never get done. Make sure to try and do the whole article, sitting down and saying you will finish it later, will mean that it will probably never get done. I have a bunch of articles that are almost done, but i doubt i’ll ever finish them. Write about an article in the news, something you thought of today or just about what you did today. Your blogging isn’t something that you should consider a menial task. It should be something you look forward to doing everyday.

Q: I don’t feel like i have time to blog, what do i do?

A: You do have time, a blog post can be something from 200 words to a 1000 words. It’s something that takes a small amount of time, and can be easy to do. So just sit down and do it.

Q: Whats the best time of day to blog?

A: Anytime, but i find in the morning when your fresh and haven’t thought of what to do for the day can be the best, or after work later in the night, when things are winding down. If you have an iPhone grab the Wordpress App, and blog anytime you feel the need to do so.

Q: What rules are there for blogging?

A: None, well you can blog whatever you think is right or wrong. If you blog about trending topics in the current times, you are more likely to get more views. And it will help with people actually looking at your blog. So just blog about what you feel is right. There isn’t too much that’s taboo on a blog, but make sure it’s what you want your readers reading about. And maybe your mother. (Like mine.)

Q: What are some good topics to blog about?

A: Anything, really blog about anything. I wouldn’t suggest blogging about how bad your boss is, since right now it’s hard to find a job, and easy to get fired. But if you had a bad day go ahead and write about it. But i would suggest current trending topics. Such things today like; “Do not use twitter”, “iran election”, “iPhone”, “OS 3.0″. And such will surely bring a good amount of users to your site. I blogged about OS 3.0 while it was being released. I had about 500 hits to the site within a 30 minute time frame. Always make sure what your blogging about though, you know what your talking about.

Q: I don’t think anyone will read my blog, why should i write then?

A: I don’t think anyone reads mine either, but then again, i get comments, and people tell me they do. And the stats prove that at least some people do. So go ahead install Wordpress Blog Stats, and watch the views go up.

Q: How do i get my blog “out there”?

A: Today i read a good article, i wish i still had it, but i lost the page. It said, to get your blog really out there, do Social Media linking. I do this by linking to blog posts on Twitter, and people click the link if there interested. Other ways, is to go on other blogs, and read them, and leave comments, maybe it’s a large blog, with millions of hits a day. When you make your account, it asks for your webpage. Go ahead and add yours there, Google sees this as a linkback, and guess what? Your site goes up on the Google index. But please don’t spam anyones blog. Make sure they are good helpful comments.

Q: How do i get a blog for free?

A: Good question! And there is an amazing answer! Go to http://wordpress.com and click that big link that says “Sign Up Now!” And you will be able to make a blog. I suggest for the “username” put yourname with no spaces. This will make your blog easier to identify as yours. If its taken, use a middle initial, be creative.

Q: I haven’t gotten any views and its been a week, what did i do wrong?

A: Nothing, send the link to your friends, write more about stuff that’s current. Put your blog on Twitter, and make sure your articles are good and insightful. And just keep writing.

So there is Blogging And Social Media Part1. So I’ll try to finish up part2, which will be about some SEO stuff, and getting your name/portfolio out there to people and best of all managing your resume, and your Linkedin.

iPhone 3GS

Just got my iPhone 3gs! It’s amazing I got the last white one that they had pictures will be up later!

What i like about the iPhone 3GS.

So when apple came out with OS 3.0 for me there was a really noticeable slow down in the iPhone. It just wasn’t snappy like it was back in the days before. So that day when i got my iPhone 3GS, everything was much faster. As i would expect from my [S]peedy version of the iPhone. I love everything about it, and when in the car, and don’t want to go look down at the iphone its much easier to just say “call ..” and it works. This isn’t something that you say the name over and over. You say it once, and it calls the right person. Even for people with weird last name spellings, it gets it right.

Another cool feature is the video ability. I’ll have to upload the video of my room, so that people can see how nice the video functionality really is on the iPhone. So here are pictures of the “familys” iphones. We all got one! Though i’m the only one with the GS.

iPhone OS 3.0 Problems

The biggest problem i have with it right now that annoys me to no end is the slowness. It used to be quite fast, now its not snappy at all! Trying to text anyone just plain sucks. Opening the phone from it being locked takes a noticeable delay. Texting it lags quite too much for me to really like it. Maybe im just to used to it being so nice and snappy. Oh well :( Will have to wait for the iPhone GS, which ill be getting monday if they have them hopefully.

[Will update with everything else i see]

Getting iPhone OS 3.0 [Pictures]

OS 3.0_2

OS 3.0_3

OS 3.0_4

OS 3.0_5

Started downloading and installing iPhone OS 3.0! Looks like everything is working. And its REALLY fast at downloading. Thank you apple for not bogging down everything. Its 158mb out of 230mb. I’m so happy right now! Will post screenshots as soon as everything is uploaded!
